Drake Workout Routine
On the surface, Drake may seem like a rich kid who jumps places. But the truth is that the multi-platinum selling artist is a workhorse who puts in the hours. He hits the gym for pushups, dips, pullups, and everything in between. He performs them in the cycles of 3-2-1 and so can you.Drake’s trainer, Garrett Graham, says that Drake doesn’t like doing burpees as that is not the area of his expertise. Other than that, he is always up for a variety of exercises. He works out regularly and includes the exercises that suit him as suggested by his trainer and that is a fair deal right? Everyone has something that they are bad at and do not like to do at the gym.Drake Workout Includes –
Chest Workout Day
Drake's trainer recommends mixing up your chest exercises to ensure that you work all the chest muscles:-If you prefer to seated chest press, you can use a flat or incline bench, dumbbells, or barbells.-By using parallel bars, benches, or the ground, you can lift.-Lift dumbbells or cable crossovers, or use a cable fly bench.Use a weight that is at the upper end of your one-rep max for 1 to 3 sets of 8-12 repetitions for beginners, 3 to 6 sets of 1-12 repetitions for more experienced lifters. With more repetitions, rest for 1-2 minutes; with higher weights, rest for up to 3 minutes. If you're a beginner or intermediate lifter, do 1 to 3 sets of eight to twelve repetitions and if you're an experienced lifter, try 2-6 sets of one to eight repetitions using a weight that's 60-80 percent of your maximum. Recover for at least one minute with more reps and up to three minutes with heavier weights and fewer reps.Drake starts with pushups and pullups as a warmup, then goes to the smith machine to do bench press. Sure, it's not what everyone does but he's fond of using a Smith machine. He follows that with an incline press and then declines the dumbbell press. His next task is to work on his cross cable flyes. In three to four sets, he does 10 to 15 reps
Back Workout Day
It was a little shocking when Drake's trainer said that he was able to gain muscle. Drake is apparently capable of muscle-ups, but he has hardly talked about it. There are various exercises in his back workouts, including pull-ups, lat pulldowns, v rows, dumbbell rows, and deadlifts. He even posted some videos of him doing deadlifts proving that he is a big fan of deadlifts when it comes to it. It is recommended that you do the back exercise in 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 15 repetitions each.A major aspect of your body that you need to make sure you target with your workouts is the back. Lifting weights isn't just about developing chest, biceps, and abs. Strengthening your back is crucial for progress.Prepare thoroughly by warming up with some shoulder, elbow, and wrist movements, followed by some light pull-downs and alternating rest periods with more mobility exercises. As you prepare for your first proper work set, gradually increase the weight and reduce the reps of each warm-up set.
Shoulder Workout Day
There is little variety in shoulder exercises, and the middle part of the deltoids is often neglected. The first step toward developing jacked shoulders is to develop all three deltoid muscle sections: the lateral, anterior, and posterior. By exercising the shoulders twice a week, your muscles have plenty of time to grow and heal. The shoulder day he does, military press, dumbbell press, shrugs, side lateral raises, front rows, and cable lateral raises. Again 3 to 4 sets with 10 to 15 reps. The shoulder day is not confirmed as he didn’t disclose much of that and his trainer kept the routine hidden even now we don’t know surely what he does. More about Drake's exercise routine is given below.
Biceps and Tricep Workouts Day
Drake says that it is the bicep curls and barbell curls that work the best for him. However, that is not all. For working out his biceps, he follows a routine of nice curls, barbell curls, preacher curls, cable curls, hammer curls. When it comes to triceps, the routine goes as- skull crusher, dumbbell kickback, pulley pushdowns, dips. He sticks to doing 3-4 sets with 10-15 repetition cycles.Your arms don't have to be rigorously challenged by an extended workout. The important thing is to train smart so you can get a lot done quickly. If you want to maximize your arms' growth, you must train each muscle's head using a set of exercises specific to that muscle. Unfortunately, just doing endless curls is not the secret.
Drake Legs and Core Day
The majority of his focus is on his abs so he showed success most in that area. The legs day includes exercises like squats, leg press, leg extensions, hamstring curls, calf raise. He also likes to do deadlifts on the leg and core day. After doing that he indulges in some further extra exercises the details of which are not very clear as those sets of exercises keep on changing. Crunches, leg raises, cross crunches( bicycle crunches), v hold, plank, hanging leg raises. He does 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 15 reps here.Even though Drake's new album More Life has been at the top of the Billboard chart for weeks, it's not the only thing going viral right now. Going through his Instagram handle, it is quite evident that he has gone from trim and toned to straight-up swole. At GapFit's launch, he showed a few push-ups and told us what makes him tick in the gym with his friend and personal trainer, OVO pal Jonny Roxx. This is a short interview that Drake had with GQ that will give us a deeper insight into his fitness routine:I’ve seen Drake live. Crowds love him, be it people of any age. Women lose their minds. But what’s he really likes inside the gym?Drake knows how to make things fun but also has a work boundary and is very focused on that. The trainer also focused on him being serious about his workouts and being consistent with them. He further added that be it Drake or anyone else that he trains, a little bit of fun has to be a part of the workouts that he assigns to add a pinch of excitement and keeping them motivated. In his own words, Jonny Roxx said: "When he comes in, he’s focused and set to go. At the gym we have fun, but it’s business too. I try to have fun with everyone that I train, him included."What’s your method with him that works out best? Do you do the typical leg day, back day, abs day, etc.?Here Jonny Roxx explained how there is no rigid plan that they work on. In fact, their workout strategies depend on the need of their role and are customized according to that from time to time. He adds, "Oh, we have a full program. When he’s going in for a movie role or tour, we have a program that we set to accomplish the goals at hand. Generally speaking, it’s not really body-building, it’s more all-around fitness. There was a point that I shredded him down 30 pounds because he wanted to look nice and thin in suits. Now we’re on this new phase where he wants to look bigger, so that’s what we’re working on".What are the projects or goals that Drake wants to focus on right now?Currently focusing on an upcoming tour, he explained how apart from working out, resting and relaxing has also been our star's focus. "I mean, we’re always building endurance for the tour. But right now I’d say that the focus is rest. We’ll get back into the gym soon enough".Well, that makes sense. By my research, the guy hit 56 shows in 80 days during his Summer Sixteen tour last summer. To this question, the trainer corrects the reporter's numbers to be more precise- "Eighty-eight shows, actually". This number was quite shocking as well as inspiring as for someone to cover so much in such less time is quite impressive.Eighty-eight shows. So how’s he find the time to work out? Isn’t he tired? This question has intrigued many people and some believe that his being consistent with his workouts is just a hoax. But, his trainer put an end to all such rumors by clarifying and sharing every detail of his workouts and even the ones between continuous shows. He replies to the reporters saying, "He finds the time every single show. About an hour before he’s out on stage, he’s getting it in. Whether we’re working out, whether he’s doing soft tissue work, whether he’s doing stretching or doing dynamic work—we always do something to get him going before he gets on stage".So wait, you’re saying even Drake hits the foam roller?"Well, we have a guy who comes in".[Laughs.] I’d pay a decent price to watch him foam roll. But if it’s not foam rolling that he really loves, what is it that he’s really about when it comes to fitness? For some people, accomplishment senses what they get after a workout. For others, it makes them stronger and more confident. Most people also say that their favorite thing about working out is the health benefits they get from it.Some people enjoy the process of working out which is the fact that they did it and the sense of accomplishment that comes with it. They feel tired and often lack motivation, but push themselves for breaking bad habits and reaching their goals regardless of how difficult it is for themYou may be any of these people or your best part about work-out might be completely different but one thing that is consistent with us all is the happiness after achieving our goals- and our Drake is no different. His trainer explains how he enjoys the most after he has achieved what he was aiming for through his workout. "I think his favorite thing is results. As far as workouts go, he’s on the ball. He’ll just look at me and be like 'tell me what I should do.' He’s really willing to do anything, except burpees".I stand corrected. Next to the foam roller, that’s another thing I’d pay to see. Drake doing a burpee.During Crossfit, you need to pace yourself well and focus in order not to become distracted by the repeated cycle of dropping down and getting back up from burpees.Whenever you do a burpee, you jam your wrist into extension. By doing so, you put tremendous strain on the anterior shoulder, which is the weakest part. So one must do them under the guidance of a well-trained person.Drake's trainer added that his main focus is Drake's health and all his workouts get customized according to what is best for him. His exact words being, "The thing is he has those down perfectly. Yeah, he wants the guns to be popping, and I program in stuff to make sure we’re working that stuff. But overall, our main focus is just health for him. I want things to be optimal in every way, so whether it’s being flexible with mobility, having the right recovery, getting enough sleep. We work out hard. We recover hard".So let’s talk recovery. When it comes to that, what do you preach? In particular, warm-ups are crucial before aerobic exercises and slow eccentric movements such as deadlifts, pull-ups, and single-arm rows in which the muscles are simultaneously lengthened and contracted. Your range of motion can be improved by static stretching, which involves holding a stretch position once your heart rate has slowed. Additionally, you may be able to sleep better by completing a short stretch session before bedtime.Replying to this answer, he keeps it simple by saying, "I just keep him stretching. We have a physiotherapist that travels with us named Charlie from London. We’re moving, we’re incorporating dynamic stretching. Movements like quad pull, hip extensions, lunges".What does Drake listen to when he works out?Putting on music while you exercise isn't just a great way to beat boredom - it helps increase your stamina while you work out and creates a better mood.Research shows that faster-paced music helps improve your athletic performance when you engage in moderate to high-level exercise, either by increasing the distance traveled or your pace. Study findings demonstrate that when people listen to fast-paced music while exercising on treadmills, they increase their pace and distance traveled without becoming more tired, according to a study published in 2006. The results of other studies indicated that music with a higher beat rate can enhance performance when engaging in low- to medium-intensity exercise.Drake obviously loves listening to music while he works out (No doubts on that one!). Speaking about the type of music, he says, "In the gym, we jam out all the time, we listen to a lot to the kids that are out now. But overall, we just love good music. It doesn’t matter what type it is, as long as it makes you move. Sometimes you’ll even hear merengue. For us, it’s all about the feeling that’s pumping you up".
"He’s really willing to do anything, except burpees."
Does Drake ever listen to Drake in the gym?To this question, his trainer mentions how Drake never takes off his songs out of his mind. Most of the time, even while working, he is in the process of thinking of new lyrics or a song video to do. He adds, "We listen to the music that he’s created before he’s put it out. While he’s working out, he’s still working in his mind. The hardest working guy I’ve ever met in my entire life. Even when he’s in the gym, he’s working. Mid-bicep curl, I’ll look at him, see his face and be like what's up man? He’ll be thinking things like “what’s the video for this song?” or “I should change this lyric.”When you’re not in the gym with him and he’s in there putting in work, what’s he likely to get after without you giving him the play-by-play?"Oh man!. I mean, he’s got some go-to's for sure. I’d say shoulder presses. Hit the incline bench. Some pull-ups. Muscle-ups".Drake can do a muscle-up?Referring to Drake's Instagram handle which created a buzz when the singer posted his buffed-up pictures, his trainer said, "Of course. Have you seen him?! Don’t miss it, he’s winning over here".
That was all about the workout routine that Drake does in his daily routine. Moving on to the next one, he also follows some tips and tricks which makes him quite consistent in the gym. Take a read ahead.
Drake Workout Tips and Tricks
In this section, we will discuss the tips that Drake shares quite consistently with his fans and friends over social media. He is pretty focused and determined about his workout routine and that is only possible when he follows his schedule. So read ahead:
Drake stays committed to the gym
Jonny Roxx, Drake's personal trainer, says that Drake keeps his fitness as his topmost priority and never misses out on it unless it is completely unavoidable. He includes a variety of exercises that keep him interested and motivated and hence committed to his workouts. His workouts consist of push-ups, dips, and pull-ups in a 3:2:1 ratio. He also encouraged that anyone can achieve so by starting with 3-2-1 reps for 10 rounds with breaks of 1 minute between the rounds. Also, to verify, you must ask- How do we know Drake stays committed to this routine? Well, that's because as you can see, he’s always posting about it on Instagram regularly. What motivates you to commit to fitness when you have a hectic schedule and sometimes no motivation? When you say you plan to work out later, we know you mean well. Unfortunately, after a long day at work, socializing, and more, it is impossible. Therefore, Drake prefers to exercise first thing each morning and then fills his evening slot later. But working out in the morning gives a head-start to his day and keeps him committed."Exercise is not an issue of weakness; rather, it is a problem of taking on too much too soon and expecting immediate results that don't happen, which leads us to give up. The commitment to fitness is not something that we can turn on overnight; it's a gradual process. It takes some time and effort, so you start small and work your way up"- his trainer says.
Drake stays light on the carbs
When you aren't eating carbohydrates, your body can turn protein (or other non-carbohydrate substances) into glucose, so it's not just carbohydrates that have the potential to raise your blood sugar levels. Adding more calories to your diet than you burn over time results in weight gain.
According to Roxx, Drake tries to avoid pasta and other refined carbs when he’s trying to look his best and working out really hard. "Italian food is probably one of our whole team’s favorite [things]," Roxx told Glamour. "But cutting down on that really helped with his cutting phase."
Moreover, Drake is fond of White wine spritzers, which can help both cut calories and alcohol from your diet, so you know what to order next time you're at the bar.It may take a few weeks or months for you to experience the benefits of a low-carb diet. While low-carb eating does not lead to a sudden change in physical appearance, feeling, and movement, your body will begin to change over time. It is simply a matter of figuring out what it will take to feel satisfied with your plan and stick to it long-term.
Drake picks one fitness goal at a time and goes all out for it
As Roxx told Glamour, the “Hotline Bling” singer will stop at nothing to achieve a goal. In fact, the trainer once put him to the test and had him complete 100 burpees in a single workout.
"He hates them, but it’s a love-hate relationship," Roxx said, noting that it took him about 40 minutes to complete the insane fitness task—but that he still did it. Another fitness goal of Drakes? Pullups. "We worked on pull-ups for a long time to get him to do a muscle-up,” Roxx said. “He was aiming for it for a while."
Drake never skips cardio thanks to his choreographer
“From my perspective, it's just whatever moves that you do, you have to do these challenging moves that just switch it up,” Drake’s longtime choreographer, Tanisha Scott, told Elle.
Scott explained that her cardio dance routines may consist of several options like jumping, spinning, and using all different parts of her body. “You'll be like, 'Oh, I'm actually working out,' and you don't even realize it. It's kind of a mind trick.”
One of the key differences between cardio and other types of exercise is that your body needs oxygen to use during your workout. Choosing the right cardio workout is a matter of deciding what kind of activities you enjoy. There are many options available for cardio. Try to find activities that fit your personality and that you would feel comfortable fitting into your schedule.
Drake puts on a fire playlist to keep him motivated at the gym
“In the gym, you'll hear some meringue music,” Roxx told Elle. “All kinds of different vibes, energies.”
Roxx said that he puts on Drake's More Life album for his workouts when they're trying to get into a high-intensity routine. Drake's motivation needs are what determines the music shuffle for the most part.
“Whatever vibe he likes,” Roxx said. “We listen to a bunch of different stuff.”
Stop at Nothing
When Drake gets a goal in mind, he will not stop until he achieves it and is highly motivated to not lose his focus. He firmly stands on the decisions and goals that he wants to achieve. He likes to challenge himself but also keeps it realistic to not stop at anything.
A Friend Indeed
Drake works out with a longtime friend and trainer Johnny Roxx. Roxx has been responsible for some of his major transformations because of which he gained a lot of limelight. Drake says working with a trainer who is as good as your friend helps maintain an easy rapport and better understanding of what one is expecting.
Sports Hotline
Many of Drake’s dance moves are inspired by his athleticism. Dance is a great way to have fun while getting cardio. Recently, Roxx and choreographer Tanisha Scott created videos that highlight some of the moves they've taught the rapper, including that which he hates most: burpees.
Team Up
Drake plays basketball all the time, even when he’s on tour. There are teams that he is part of and keeps challenging his colleagues for a little fun and healthy competition. Drake is named a global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors which says a lot about his basketball skills. A good game is an intense workout in itself.
Burpee Bum
Drake doesn’t like burpees and has a relationship that has been described as a "love-hate relationship" by his own trainer, but he does them anyway. His trainer once had him do 100 in 1 workout and he evidently took 40 minutes to complete it.
Focus on Your Goal
While cutting to heavier weights and compound movements to bulk up, Drake uses calisthenics and lengthening exercises. Adding a variety to his exercise keeps him focused and motivated as it breaks the monotony.
Zone In
During his routines, Drake loves to pull up. It took him a long time to perfect it, and he is evidently very proud of his achievement. In an interview, he explained the process he went through to perfect what he wanted and that it has not been easy.
Recover Hard
Drake understands that his intense workouts are not possible if his body does not heal properly after workouts. Hence he gives as much attention to recovery as he does to his workouts. The process includes a lot of stretching, drinking plenty of water with anti-inflammatory foods (further details on that later in this article). That is not all. Quad pulls, hip extensions, and lunges are also part of his recovery routine.Even your dancing should be athletic.Apart from the iconic "Hotline Bling" dance that does not count as cardio and may not help your workout, but according to Scott many of Drake's moves are inspired by his athletic prowess. "A lot of his movement has a lot to do with sports. The way he moves onstage looks like he's playing basketball or shooting—unless he's on the double phone or playing tennis!" says Scott, laughing. "Depending on the artists I work with, whatever hobbies they have, I just bring that. You’ll see a lot of things that resemble [sports] in the routine."
He has Done Boxing
Here is another sport that Drake loves and it pays him off really well by helping his body build up that muscle bulk. "This kind of boxing has many health benefits because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture," physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital, told Havard Health. That was all that there is to Drake's workout routine. He also follows a great diet plan which supports his workouts and his hectic schedule in general. Thus here is a list of all that he eats in the day which you can see in the next section.
Drake Diet Plan
Drake's diet plan is customized from time to time according to the needs of his roles and the type of workout being performed. For instance, Drake cut 30 lbs. because he wanted to look proper in suits, but recently he sought another look where he wanted to look bigger and buff. n terms of diet, he doesn't give a lot of information except to say that he avoids carbs and eats a lot of lean animal protein. He rarely eats pasta anymore, mostly because he wants to look ripped. He has also cut down on alcohol consumption(a little ironic knowing that he has his own line of whiskey). Drake makes sure to drinks plenty of water each day to stay hydrated.
What to Eat
- Lean Animal Protein
- Eggs
- Leafy Greens
- Vegetables
- Olive Oil

What to Avoid
- Pasta
- Processed Food
- Refined Sugar
- Junk Food
- Fried Food
- Artificial additives
- Chemical Ingredients
Even though not much has been known about his diet plan, he shares some of the tips which can be added to the routine. He makes sure to stay consistent and be as healthy as possible. Thus he has some tips to share with his fans and followers who follow him on various social media.
Drake Diet Tips
In this section, we would talk about all the trips that Drake likes to add when it comes to his diet plan. He makes sure that he does not diverge from his main goals and focus and keeps consistent. In this section we will try to find out all that he does to make his diet supportable for himself:
Go Team Protein
When Drake decided to bulk up, he made the necessary changes to his diet, and that included adding more lean animal protein and protein shakes. Your muscles can rebuild themselves after exercise by getting the amino acids they need from protein.
Cut the Carbs
Drake follows a low-carb lifestyle. Italian food is one of his favorites but he tries his best to cut down on the spaghetti and has gotten great results. First, you should determine how many grams of protein and fat you want to eat, then you can work on your carb intake. There are many carb frameworks, depending on whether you are trying to build muscle or lose fat. Whatever your goal is, whether it is building muscle or losing fat, you'll need to have lots of energy to work out. Before your morning workout, you may not need carbs if you feel energetic without them. As opposed to this, if you are looking to build some muscle and your energy levels are waning during your workout, a protein shake, and an apple before your workout can provide you with ample protein and carbohydrates.
Lose the Liquor
Drake also cut back on the booze, which was a smart move. Alcohol takes a toll on your blood sugar and your waistline. If you want to stop drinking, make a list of the rewards you'll gain - such as feeling better, sleeping better, or improving your relationships. There are other options, like setting aside a particular day only for drinking and being aware of peer pressure and doing best to avoid it.
Golden Cheat
Drake prefers eating clean even when it's his cheat day. However, when really in the mood for one, he chooses a burger with fries to curb his unhealthy cravings. That was all about the diet tips that Drake likes to add to his diet plan. But when it comes to diet, that is not all. He also takes some supplements which are useful when he has a rough day. It helps him to complete his daily intake amidst his busy schedule. Thus in the next section, we will read all about it.
Drake Nutrition and Supplements
Workouts are great for your body, but if you aren't taking proper precautions, including eating the right nutrients, they can also wreak havoc on your muscles and joints. It is one of the main reasons people seek out nutritional support that nutrients are capable of repairing the damage that occurs during exercise.PROTEIN
Among the supplements Drake takes is protein, which would be a good choice for people looking to build muscle. Additionally, it increases metabolism, fills you up, reduces cravings, and boosts immunity. This macronutrient, protein- aids in building muscle, repairing tissue, and making enzymes and hormones. Weight loss and muscle toning can also be aided with protein. Taking supplements and eating foods rich in protein can help you feel full longer. By feeling full, people tend to eat smaller portions and snack less frequently, which is beneficial in maintaining a healthy weight or losing weight if necessary.
GREENS SUPPLEMENT
We can guess Drake eats his veggies, but if you don’t get as many as you should because of time constraints or other reasons, a greens supplement is a smart move. The process of making green supplements evaporates some of the natural nutritional content of fruits and vegetables like fiber. The nutrients you get from consuming whole foods cannot be replaced by greens powders.Doctors, however, say that greens powder can be a great way to supplement a healthy diet with extra vitamins and antioxidants.
PROBIOTICS
To get the most benefit from what you eat, probiotics are never a bad idea. The main purpose of probiotics is to maintain a healthy balance in the body. Maintaining neutrality is similar to keeping your body in balance. Bacteria enter the body when you're ill, increasing in number. The body is knocked out of balance as a result. As a result of good bacteria, your body feels better as it battles off any harmful bacteria.
VITAMIN D
Vitamin D is another must-have because it boosts testosterone production which helps in muscle growth. Decreased levels of vitamin D make you feel sluggish but, an adequate amount can help in muscle recovery after a heavy workout.
MAGNESIUM
Flexibility is one of the benefits of magnesium as it relieves tight muscles and helps prevent injuries. Muscles that do not get enough magnesium cannot relax fully, which may result in cramps. Magnesium deficiency causes lactic acid buildup, known to cause post-exercise sore muscles and cramps.
OMEGA-3S
Exercise-induced muscle damage is fought by supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids, which soothe the nervous and cardiovascular systems and reduce inflammation. Researchers have shown that omega-3 fatty acids can promote protein synthesis, which is what happens when your body converts the protein you eat into the fuel you need to build muscle and stay strong. You will have a better chance of building and maintaining muscle if you consume more omega-3 fatty acids.
