However, she has addressed this issue which she had to face at the very beginning of her career in 2018. She told in an interview that she was forced to fit into someone else's vision of how she must appear on the screen.She also recounted a similar experience when she got herself a part in Studio City, a TV show starring Heather Graham and Eric McCormack. Pugh told that she was asked to lose weight and while the show flopped on the screens, it made Florence realize what it would take to make a career in Hollywood. "What I've noticed about Hollywood is, if you go out there shouting about who you are, they will love you for it," she said in an interview. She also stated that "But if you go out not knowing what it is that you're representing, and you are just a canvas, they will make you into the thing they need you to be."

Quoting one of her similar experiences during the shooting of The Falling, alongside Maisie Williams, she tells that “I did a job where it was made very apparent that I needed to lose weight [by the team working on the production] and when it was over, I was very aware I didn’t want to do that kind of work,” she realized when she was just 17 years of age. She continued, “Because I was faced with that, I realized what I wanted to represent, and had that not happened, I may not have overcome my issues with my body at such an early age. I’m happy about that, but a lot of women aren’t that lucky.”
